Resources For Students

  • The Basic Needs Center can help provide access to food, housing, or other financial support. Fill out this form to get started.

  • If you meet certain criteria, Cal Fresh can award students up to $281 for groceries.

  • Scholarships

  • FAFSA INFO

  • The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office offers short-term emergency loans to graduate and undergraduate students. These interest-free loans are designed to help students meet unanticipated expenses directly related to the cost of education.

  • Declaring financial independence may be helpful for reducing tuition costs. Being estranged from family, parents refusing to accept gender or sexual orientation, and history of adverse home life are a few cases where a dependency override can be made. Reach out to the Student Advocacy Office or file a case with Cal Student Central.

  • Withdrawal is the process of dropping all classes once a semester has started. It cancels any enrollment in future semesters until readmission.

A different process is followed in the case of medical withdrawal. More information can be found here.

If withdrawing, there are many community resources available:

  • You can connect with an Educational Opportunity Program academic counselor to discuss your options at eop.berkeley.edu or by calling (510) 642-7224.

  • Medical withdrawal follows a different process.

  • There are many considerations to make prior to withdrawal:

    • You may have to pay back prorated registration fees or financial aid

    • Your student housing contract may be affected

    • Your immigration status or visa may be affected

Some campus resources will still be available:

  • Withdrawn students may still be eligible for financial assistance, reach out through the assistance form

  • You may wish to declare financial independence. Being estranged from family, parents refusing to accept gender or sexual orientation, and history of adverse home life are a few cases where a dependency override can be made. Reach out to the Student Advocacy Office or file a case with Cal Student Central.
