About Staff Diversity Initiatives
Our charge is to engage staff and management to ensure staff diversity throughout the campus, foster an inclusive work environment with a welcoming climate, and link efforts to the public mission of the university.
Sidalia Reel joined the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity & Inclusion in 2008 as the Director of Staff Diversity Initiatives. As the Director, Sid leads a team in engaging staff and management to ensure staff diversity throughout the campus at all levels of employments; to foster an inclusive workplace environment with a welcoming climate; and to link staff diversity efforts to the public mission of the university in support of a holistic vision for the campus. The position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Equity & Inclusion, Na'ilah Nasir. Sid sits on various strategic committees on campus, including the Operating Principles Steering Committee, the Workforce Strategy Group, and the Human Resources Advisory Council.
Sid comes to UC Berkeley from the Hewlett-Packard Company where she led the Diversity and Inclusion organization, and consulted with company leaders worldwide on developing and implementing diversity and inclusion strategies, programs and policies. Prior to joining HP, Sid was the Diversity Manager at Pacific Bell.
Her background includes more than 20 years of corporate and consulting positions in human resources, instructional design, teaching, and management. She is a member of the Diversity Collegiums' think tank and several other diversity focused organizations.
She has an Ed.D. in Human Performance from the School of Education at the University of Southern California. She received her Masters of Education Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor's degree in sociology from Scripps College. Sid was born and raised in Berkeley and is a graduate of Berkeley High School.
